Maxi Racing Continues in Porto Cervo

Day two of the 2009 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup dawned bright and clear. Early reports from the racecourse suggested a small change in conditions from yesterday. The wind had backed a little to the north, and was blowing a fresh 15 knots, but the sea state remained large and lumpy. Happy campers this evening were Luna Rossa (ITA) in Mini Maxi Racing; Y3K (GER) in Wally; Beau Geste (HKG) in Racing & Racing Cruising; Whisper (IRL) in Mini Maxi Racing/Cruising and Velsheda (GBR) in Cruising/Spirit of Tradition.

The Swan yachts racing in the Mini Maxi and Maxi Racer/Cruiser Classes were set a 39-nautical mile course for the second race of the week which took them up to the vaunted Eceuil before heading home round the outside. Gerard Logel’s team on Swan 601 @Robas had a better day today registering a 3rd place score in Class. Following their retirement on the first day, the 601 appears to be coming back to form after their memorable win at the Giraglia Rolex Cup and will hope to continue working their way up the fleet scoreboard in the upcoming races of the series. @Robas is currently the leader of the Swan Maxi Class 2009 Circuit, for which this week’s Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is the final event, so will be keen to finish the regatta as the highest placed Swan and claim the Circuit Champion title.

Newcomer to the Swan Maxi Circuit, Swan 90 DSK also had a competitive day in the Maxi Racer/Cruiser Class tallying another 3rd place result behind Class leader Beau Geste (HKG), and ahead of Swan 100 Varsovie who finished in 4th.

Racing continues, tomorrow, Wednesday at with the first start scheduled for 11.30 CEST.
