Once again, the luminaries of the yacht racing world have gathered on the quays and alleyways of Palma de Mallorca for the latest edition of the Superyacht Cup. Close on the heels of 3 regattas – all held within the last two weeks in Sardinia and Newport – the Superyacht Cup this year boasted a remarkable fleet of twenty one yachts representing the pride of every yacht building nation. On the docks, it was a ‘who’s who’ of racing crew, while on the water we saw a veritable United Nations of yachting, all competing to bring racing glory home.
This year’s fleet made for a truly fantastic spectacle, both on the race course, and ashore in this most scenic of locations, directly in the lee of Palma’s beautiful Cathedral. This year, most of the fleet was Dutch, and Nautor’s Swan was represented by the Swan 112, Highland Breeze and the Swan 90, Nefertiti. Ben Kolff, owner of marine fashion business Gaastra, Gold sponsors of the Superyacht Cup and other regattas, and owner of Highland Breeze said of the Cup: “These are some of the most beautiful and prestigious yachts in the world, making themselves available to sail together in a lovely environment, while being able to compete in an extremely well-organised event. My company Gaastra is proud to be accepted and to participate as a Gold Sponsor.”
Racing on day one started off perfectly, with a welcomed last minute kick-up of breeze, and close starts followed by some superb sailing from both classes. The wind picked up for day two and three and offered many thrills of mega yacht sailing. Across the 3 days of racing Nefertiti performed well, bringing in a third in her class.
