The Giraglia Rolex Cup, 12 – 19 June, run by the Yacht Club Italiano and Societe Nautique de Saint-Tropez saw a flock of over 20 Swans competing. The star of the regatta was Gerard Logel racing onboard his Swan 601 @robas, who claimed first place in the Swan Maxi Class. The famed long distance race around the Giraglia rock saw Swan yachts using crucial tactics to maintain speed in the light winds with Swan 56, La Foresta del Mar using every sail that they had onboard.
For Mr Logel the Giraglia Rolex Cup was the second event in the Swan Maxi Class Circuit that he has won. @robas is a top fixture in the Swan Maxi Class Circuit this season and is being raced by a winning team of friends and family. The prize giving was held on Saturday 19 June at the Yacht Club San Remo.
The 2010 Giraglia Rolex Cup produced some mixed conditions ranging from very light winds to driving rain and squalls which saw day three of the inshore races being abandoned. The Giraglia Rolex Cup is made up of both inshore and offshore racing with the main event being the long distance race from Saint Tropez around the Giraglia rock finishing in San Remo.
The diverse flock of Swan’s competing in the Giraglia Rolex Cup this year ranged from the one design Club Swan 42 and Swan 45 classes all the way up to the stunning Swan 112, Highland Breeze. The Swan fleet also included the following Swan models, 411, 44, 46, 55, 65, 66, 80 and 90. Duan the Swan 80, owned by Anna Maria Campi, was raced by a crew of friends that have been sailing together for over ten years.
Nautor’s Swan also hosted a cocktail party for guests onboard the elegant Swan 90 Solleone during the inshore races from Saint Tropez. Guests of Nautor’s Swan were treated to drinks and canapés in front of the picturesque harbour.
The next event in the Swan Maxi Class circuit will be the Rolex Swan Cup, 13 – 19 September in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. The Rolex Swan Cup is the pinnacle yacht racing event for Swan owners and sailors this year.
