From 20 to 24 April the Hublot PalmaVela regatta will be held in Palma di Mallorca organised by the Real Club Nautico de Palma. This event will be the first regatta on the Swan Maxi Circuit.
Nautor’s Swan, builder of luxury sailing yachts, is not only known for the exemplary design and manufacture of its products but also for its established community of Swan owners. It is through this dedication to providing owners with a unique experience of owning yachts that the Swan Maxi Circuit was created.
Hublot Palmavela will be the first event to kick start the 2011 Swan Maxi Circuit. The Swan Maxi Class Circuit, developed for Swan yachts over 60 feet, is made up of a selection of the most prestigious regattas in the Mediterranean. The Class Circuit was established by Nautor’s Swan in 2008 to bring together a network of Swan Maxi yachts from across the globe to enjoy a structured active racing circuit.
Since PalmaVela’s first edition in 2004, the regatta has quickly become established seeing competitors congregate from all over the world at one of the most prestigious European yacht clubs. The 2011 edition is due to see 120 entrants, representing in excess of 15 countries, reinforcing itself as a spectacular opening to the Mediterranean season. With the aim to bring sailing closer to the public in general, this regatta has gathered all kinds of keeled yachts, several one design classes and the beautiful classic and vintage yachts. The Swan Maxi Class entrants, competing under IRC ratings, will enjoy exhilarating racing in the waters of Palma in the Mini Maxi and Maxi classes. The events that make up the circuit are as follows:
PalmaVela, Palma de Mallorca 20 - 24 April
Rolex Volcano Race, Gaeta-Capri 24 - 28 May
Giraglia Rolex Cup, St. Tropez 18 - 25 June
Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, Porto Cervo 2 - 10 September
The regatta will see four stylish and highly competitive international Swan yachts flock to the start line this year. These will include a huge variety of Swans, ranging from Swan 44, Sehkraft, owned by Matthias Maus and Dr. Ludger Hanneken, up to Swan 601, @robas, owned by Logel Gérard. Also competing will be Vertical Smile, Swan 60 owned by Peter Lerbrandt and Montrachet, Swan 48 owned by Robert Schuijt.
