Swan 82 Grey Goose has taken victory over the Maxi fleet in the coastal race on day three of PalmaVela. Following Favonius’s winning streak over the first two days of windward-leeward courses, today’s 23 mile coastal course provided optimum conditions for Grey Goose to break the Swan 80s overall lead in the Maxi Racer-Cruiser Class. With the course beginning on an upwind stretch for 2 miles, in light breeze, Grey Goose took an early lead on the water which they held on to across the finish line. The wind conditions were varying throughout the day and, with a maximum of 12 knots of breeze, gave a complete contrast to the previous race days. Swan 601 @Robas had to settle for 2nd position over today’s course after a close fought contest with Wallyno but still retains a three point lead overall in their Mini Maxi Class. The 601, helmed by Gerard Logel, also registered their first race win in the Swan Maxi Class results today with the fastest corrected speed of all competing Swan yachts. With another coastal race scheduled for tomorrow, the final day of PalmaVela, the competitive spirit is increasingly apparent among the participating Swans as all crews hope to register their best possible score for the first event of the 2009 Swan Maxi Class Circuit. The overall Swan Maxi Class scoreboard, based on corrected speed results for both fleets, after five races, is as follows: 1st - Swan 80, Favonius: 1,1,1,1, 4 (8 points) 2nd - Swan 82, Grey Goose: 3,2,2,2,2 (10 points) 3rd - Swan 601, @Robas: 2,3,3,4,1 (13 points) 4th - Swan 80, Astro: 4,4,5,3,5 (21 points) 5th - Swan 68, Risktaker: 6,5,4,5,3 (23 points)
