Swan Maxis Start On A High At PalmaVela

After two windward-leeward races on the first day of Hublot PalmaVela, which represents the start of the Swan Maxi Class 2009 Circuit, the Swan fleet is on top form, leading in both the Maxi Racer/Cruiser Class and in the Mini-Maxi Class. The regatta, organised by Real Club Nautico de Palma, is celebrating the ideal weather conditions, brilliant sunshine and 20knots of breeze, which mark the beginning to the big boat sailing season in Palma, Mallorca.

In a highly competitive Maxi Class division, made up exclusively of Swan and Wally yachts over 70ft, Swan 80 Favonius, the 2009 Circuit Champion, has taken the initial lead, after being placed 1st in both races with Roel Pieper at the helm. Swan 82 Grey Goose also started the Circuit on a good note coming out on top overall in a closely fought contest for 2nd place with the Wally, Open Season.

In the Mini-Maxi fleet, Swan 601 @Robas, helmed by Gerard Logel, registered 2nd and 1st place results and goes into Thursday’s racing at the top of the fleet.

We look forward to the next four days of racing in Palma which will take the Swan Maxi Class through its paces over a range of windward-leeward and coastal courses and, if the weather forecast stands, a wide variety of weather conditions.

The overall scores for the Swan Maxi Class going into the second day of racing are as follows: 1st - Swan 80, Favonius
2nd - Swan 82, Grey Goose
3rd - Swan 601, @Robas
4th - Swan 80, Astro
5th - Swan 68, Risktaker
